Prepared Cat Food Cat Food

There are foods available that cater for every stage of your cats life. These come in dry, semi-moist or canned forms, and, in addition, there are deep-frozen foods which come the closets to fresh meat or fish. If the food is from a well known brand, the contents should be shown on the wrapper. If they say complete food, then all that needs supplementing is water. However, the better quality the food the more expensive it will be.

Do check the label for any additives, the ingredients and the nutrient content. Bear in mind that the average can may only 6-12% protein, but this is usually for the total 100g of food, rather than dry weight. This normally equates to 40% dry weight, so is acceptable.

If your cat is only fed on dry food, then you need to ensure there is always water available and change it at least once a day.Cat Food

A cat can survive 10-14 days without food, but will die within days with no water. How much water a cat needs, depends on the amount of water in the food and the climate or temperature. Fresh meat and canned foods are made up of 75% water, but dry foods are only 10%. The cats’ kidneys are very efficient at conserving water.
