American Wirehair and American
Curl Cats
History
Both of these cat breeds are
domestic shorthair versions that show the effect of natural mutation, which
has only been seen in the USA. The American Curl cat has ears that curl away
from the face; a misshapen ear is also seen in the Scottish Fold, but the
ears flop forward.
The American Wirehair cat has a
wiry coat that is not too different to the Devon and Cornish Rex cats. But,
the gene that cause these changes are different to the ones in the Scottish
Fold and Rex.
Character and Temperament
Both the Wirehair and Curl cats
show the character and temperament associated with the other American
Shorthair varieties. They are friendly, intelligent, sturdy and adaptable
and the make excellent pets.
Type and Standard of Points
Both of these cats are medium
sized breeds, with rounded heads, medium sized wide set ears, and with well
developed muzzles and whisker pads. They are not as cobby or shortfaced as
the American or British Shorthair cats, and in general tend to be more
elegant and graceful, similar to the general build for the Foreign
Shorthaired cats.
