Tonkinese Cats
History
Tonkinese cats are basically a
cross between Burmese and Siamese. They. therefore display a little of each
of these well-know breeds. They arrived by way of a breeding programme
developed in North America in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Although
accepted there in 1975, they are still only granted provisional status in
the UK and Europe.
Character and Temperament
As with Burmese and Siamese, the
Tonkinese cat is an outgoing, friendly and affectionate cat that will be
into anything and everything.
Type and Standard of Points
In shape and size, the Tonkinese
cat is a modified form of its original parentage; neither as long and
angular as the Siamese cat nor as chunky as the Burmese cat, but a true
cross between the two. Recently this breed has been given provisional status
in the UK by the GCCF.
