Snowshoe Cats

History

This cat can be referred to as the shorthaired Birman, the Snowshoe bears no ancestry from this ancient and original breed of cat. It is, in fact, the result of mating a Siamese with an American Bi-Colour shorthaired cat, which provided the gene necessary for the typical white pattern on the feet.

Character and Temperament

These are sweet-natured cats, showing a modified form of the Siamese intelligence crossed with the laid back nature of the American Shorthaired cat - possibly the perfect combination for a pet.

Type and Standard of Points

This is quite a large breed with a short close lying coat which can be any colour for the Siamese or any other breed with the Himalayan factor. The eyes should always be blue, large and almond shaped. The head should be a medium triangular wedge, in profile showing a nose break, but never being of Siamese type which is considered a severe fault. The muzzle and feet must be white.
