Singapura Cats
History
This cat got its name from
Singapore where it was considered to be the 'drain' cat that lived in the
gutters - which is accepted as the reason for it being smaller than most
other foreign shorthairs. As Singapore is a colony containing many cat
loving 'expats', these diminutive, indigenous cats were immediately loved.
The slight size of the Singapura may be due to its deprived background, but
it is generally a sturdy breed.
Character and Temperament
What this cat lacks in size it
makes up for in character and temperament. Singapuras are sweet, loving and
affectionate, although perhaps a little demure and reserved.
Type and Standard of Points
The generally appearance is of a
small cat that feels heavier than it looks. The ticked tabby coat looks
similar to the Abyssinian cats. The ears should be large, slightly pointed
and wide at the base; the eyes are large and almond-shaped and the head
should be rounded, narrowing to a blunt muzzle and in profile showing a
slight nose break and a firm chin and jaw line.
