Scottish Fold Cats

History

These cats are not recognized in the UK, due to their deformed ears, being considered a defect detrimental to the cats health. However the breed is recognized in the USA where it is very popular. Like the Rex cats, the breed developed from a natural mutation and were first seen in Scotland.

Character and Temperament

These cats have a strange appearance, but the Scottish Fold is a sweet, gentle breed. They are good with children, other cats and pets, and although the shape of the ear may make you suspect these cats have a problem with hearing, this has never been the case.

Type and Standard of Points

In shape the cat should be a moderated British type but always showing the distinctive ears, which are folded forwards and downwards. The coat should be thick and resilient, similar to the Manx cat and other shorthaired breeds that have come from the North. The ears should be set wide apart so that the head has a flat appearance. Both coat and eye colour can be any colour.
