Korat Cats

History

The Korat is one of the oldest breeds, originating from Thailand where it was known as the sacred cat, 'Si-Sawat'. It first came to America in the early 1950s and from there arrived in the UK in 1972. The Thai name fro the breed means good fortune and in their own country Korat cats have always been highly prized. They are a unique breed as they are only available in the original blue colour.

Character and Temperament

This is a quiet, gentle, loving cat with the sweetest of temperaments. It may seem placid, but is intelligent. It does not like loud noises or an unruly household so is best suited to a quiet home.

Type and Standard of Points

The most striking feature of the Korat is its sweet, heart-shaped face with green to yellow eyes; the Korat's expression is quite distinctive. The head should show a gentle pointed muzzle and the ears should be of medium size and set high on the head. In profile the nose should show a sight break. The coat should be short, sleek and close lying, displaying an even silvery blue colour all over, and, in profile, breaks in the fur along the back bone. In general, the Korat should be a medium sized cat that is muscular and firm.
